AI as first-order elements — fast
Description
Volt4AI is AI native: AI components are first-order elements of the platform, designed in from the start and built to run fast, rather than added as an afterthought.
Importance
Building AI in as a first-class, signed, deployable element — not a bolt-on — is what makes AI fast, governable and trustworthy on the same trust fabric as the data it uses (Volt: Fundamentals).
Benefit
- AI agents are integral to the architecture, not bolted on.
- Optimised for low-latency AI operation.
Defence Relevance
A core DTW objective is integrating AI into the targeting process to increase speed, scale and effectiveness. Volt’s Cortex agent model deploys compute as digitally signed artefacts across federated cloud and edge, and natively supports AI security via TAIBOM (co-authored with BAE and BSI; integrated with GCHQ AI tools). Volt is positioned as a “Data & AI Fabric… AI-native integration” for the DTW backbone, supporting Challenge 3 (building knowledge and making decisions faster).
Civilian & Enterprise Relevance
Enterprises deploy governed AI agents close to their data, with provenance (an AI bill of materials) for compliance and trust — relevant to regulated AI use and to the EU AI Act’s transparency and risk-management obligations.
