Portable
lightweight; embedded Pi or smaller
Description
Volt4AI is portable and lightweight enough to run on embedded hardware — a Raspberry Pi-class device or smaller — as well as on larger systems, so the same platform spans from edge devices to servers.
Importance
One lightweight platform that spans tiny edge devices to servers means you deploy where the data and action are, instead of forcing everything through the cloud. Volt ships native clients for many platforms (Volt: Native / C++ client).
Benefit
- Deploys on constrained edge and embedded hardware, not just cloud or server.
- One platform from tiny devices up to full infrastructure.
Defence Relevance
Providing the DTW out to the edge needs software that runs on constrained, deployed hardware. Volt is a C++ native install under 100MB, portable across operating systems and deployed in public/private cloud and on edge devices “as diverse as drones, cameras and battleships,” with more compact installs possible. Maps to DTW Cycle 0 criterion 8 (local and cloud deployability) and Challenge 4 (providing the DTW out to the Edge).
Civilian & Enterprise Relevance
IoT and edge analytics on gateways, cameras and Raspberry Pi-class hardware run without cloud round-trips — cutting latency, bandwidth cost and data-residency exposure for industrial, retail and smart-infrastructure deployments.
