Supply chain
embedded supply chain and provenance
Description
Volt4AI embeds supply chain and provenance tracking into the platform, so the origin and chain of custody of data and components are recorded as first-class information rather than bolted on afterwards.
Importance
Trust decisions depend on knowing where data and components came from; embedded provenance makes lineage auditable instead of assumed. Volt carries lineage as synchronised signed credentials (Volt: Verifiable credentials).
Benefit
- Makes data and component lineage auditable end to end.
- Supports trust decisions based on where something came from and how it was handled.
Defence Relevance
Trusted targeting data must be auditable across complex allied supply chains. In the NQM response, operational metadata is assembled across supply chains using synchronised Verifiable Credentials — a model demonstrated in NIST SP 1800-36 and TAIBOM (Trustable AI Bill of Materials, co-authored with BAE and BSI). Supports the DTW objective of trusted, NATO-compliant data and the Exploitable-by-Design governance (60) and metadata (61) principles.
Civilian & Enterprise Relevance
Software supply-chain security (SBOM mandates), food and pharma traceability, ESG reporting and procurement audit increasingly require provable lineage — Volt makes it an intrinsic, signed property rather than a manual exercise.
